Andy Gibbon: President

Andy propelled a home-brewing hobby into a stint at Highland Brewing, Asheville’s first micro-brewery. When he started roasting coffee at home, he was hooked. He’s also Dynamite’s numbers guy. And he’ll make you feel laaaazy. If he’s not roasting coffee or off in Honduras sourcing beans, he’s probably on a bike, hiking the Appalachian Trail, or playing bass with Josh. Everyone loves Andy’s good natured sense of humor and his genuine interest in his community and friends.

Hailing from the Asheville area (Old Fort, to be exact), Josh is an all around home-town hero. (Literally. He has served as a volunteer firefighter and as Deputy Chief of the local rescue squad.) With a marketing background, Josh is the man you’ll find “high-fiving, hugging and hand-shaking.” Josh genuinely loves people and it shows. When he’s not pushing beans to the masses, you may find him up on stage, sometimes singing, with a lap steel guitar.

What was your first experience with coffee?

My dad would eat peanut butter toast with coffee every morning.

What’s your favorite part of your job/Dynamite/coffee industry?

One of my favorite things is cupping samples and choosing a new coffee. Another favorite is tracking roast profiles and deciding where to make changes in order to access all of the flavor potential in each coffee. I also like the conversations and collaboration that go into those changes. Well, that’s nearly the entire process for choosing a new coffee. That’s what I love, collaborating with other passionate coffee professionals.

What do you like to do outside of Dynamite?

I like to spend time with my family. Play guitar, hike and practice Chinese martial arts.

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe & Cual Bicicleta

What’s your favorite part of your job/Dynamite/coffee industry?

Getting in a new coffee. Challenging yet rewarding experience figuring out how to highlight each roast to its potential. Also, my incredible coworkers and our unwavering commitment to our farmers.

What do you like to do outside of Dynamite?

Pretty much anything outside! Avid runner, love hiking and camping with my kids. Cooking, reading, gardening, listening to music, & porch sitting with my loves.

Christina Redman: Coffee Bar Manager
What was your first experience with coffee?

My dad is a big coffee drinker. As a kid I was interested in his morning coffee routine. At an early age he taught me how to make coffee, including how strong he wanted it and how much cream he put in his cup. I went through a phase where I would get up before him to make his coffee on Saturday mornings, and occasionally would bring it to him in bed. Unfortunately for him, that phase didn’t last too long.

What’s your favorite brew method?

Love them all for different reasons. Top three: pour over, espresso, and cold brew

What do you like to do outside of Dynamite?

Anything outside: hike, camp, kayak, relax in a hammock and read a good book. And of course meet friends for coffee.

Elijah Habif: Barista

What’s your favorite coffee drink/brew method?

I am a huge fan of cold brew coffee. I find that all the wonderful flavor notes of the roast come across much stronger in a cold brew and just love how much of a smooth, low acidity drink it makes.

What’s your favorite record in the Dynamite vinyl collection?

With such a huge collection of records it’s near impossible to say but The Band’s self titled record will always hold a special place in my heart.

What do you like to do outside of Dynamite?

When I’m outside of Dynamite I like to hike, play music, snowboard, go see music, and explore what the area has to offer.

Evan Lewis: Barista
What was your first experience with coffee?

When I was very young I would wander away from my parents in the grocery store, and I would eat small handfuls of coffee beans.

What’s your favorite brew method?

I prefer cold brew and espresso at work, and brew with an AeroPress at home.

What do you like to do outside of Dynamite?

I like playing music with my band, cooking, weaving, sewing, painting, reading, and napping.

Jonathan Brown: Barista
What’s your favorite coffee?

I keep coming back to my first love, Mexico Chiapas. The natural processed Cual Bicicleta is a close second.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

Definitely the people!  I get to work along side a great team.  I also love getting to know all the regulars, (usually by order first, then by name).  I grew up in a small town so I feel right at home.  I also love helping first time Dynamite customers navigate our menu to find their perfect cup of coffee.

What do you like to do outside of Dynamite?

Anything outdoors, especially on the water,  I just bought a canoe and am hoping to do tripping on the French Broad soon.
