Ratio: 1:15 (Coffee: Water)
To start, we recommend a 1:15 ratio of coffee to water. This ratio will be 18g of coffee to 275g of hot water (195°F- 200°F). Note that the AeroPress brew method generally only brews one cup of coffee at a time.
Grind: Medium Fine (Table Salt)
The consistency should be similar to that of table salt. A coarser grind will allow water to pass through more easily and thus be easier to plunge. Too fine of grounds will be hard to plunge and is a common troubleshooting error.
Coffee we enjoy brewed using an AeroPress:
How to Brew: Freshly grind 18g of coffee, place into an inverted AeroPress, pour hot water over grounds, Add filter/ lid, Press, and Enjoy!
- To begin, start with the AeroPress upside down/ inverted. Ensure the plunger is pulled all the way out, leaving only 1cm from the base. The plunger should still create a seal to the body of the Aeropress.
- Remove the lid and add a filter. Rinse the filter to remove any additional filter taste. This will also allow the filter to stick to the lid. Set the lid and filter aside.
- Next, with the inverted AeroPress on your scale, add in 18g of freshly ground coffee.
- Starting a timer, add 50g of water (195°F- 200°F). Make sure to cover all grounds.
- After 30 seconds, add the remaining 200g of water and stir.
- After 2:30 minutes, add the lid with the filter back onto the AeroPress.
- Carefully, flip the AeroPress onto your mug/ drinking vessel. Once flipped, slowly press down on the plunger. You’ll want to evenly push down the plunger with slow, careful pressure. Too fast, and coffee tends to fly everywhere.
General tips/ facts:
- AeroPresses are great to use when camping or going off-grid. They’re lightweight and made of plastic, so there’s no need to worry about breaking them in your bag.
- Tip 1: If the plunger is hard to push down, try increasing your grind size.
- Tip 2: Ensure the plunger is still creating a seal before adding any grounds. Without the seal, the grounds and water will easily pass through the bottom.
Enjoy!
