Brew Guides for Every Occasion
First Things First
-
Keepin’ it Fresh– You’ve picked up a bag of your favorite organic Dynamite coffee! For dark roasts, wait 3-4 days to off-gas and use within 2-3weeks of opening the bag. For light roasts, wait 7-10 days to off-gas and use within 3-4 weeks of opening.
-
Oh! That’s HOT– Brew your coffee with water that’s between 195°- 205°F (195°F: Dark Roasts & 205°F: Light Roasts). Don’t have a thermometer? Let boiling water sit for 30 secs, and it’ll be perfect.
-
The Golden Ratio– Generally, the perfect ratio for freshly brewed coffee to water is 1:16. This can vary slightly per brew method and roast level, for a range of 1:15-1:18. However, starting any freshly brewed method at a ratio of 1:16 is a great starting place.
-
Weight v. Volume– Dark roasts are less dense than light roasts, so equal volumes of each won’t give you equal amounts of coffee. To nail your golden ratio, weigh your coffee and water rather than measuring by volume. (We know, we know.)
-
AHHH not the Light– Store coffee in an airtight container away from light and heat. Avoid the fridge, and only use the freezer if you won’t be using it all in 2+ months. Frequent freezing and thawing leads to stale coffee fast. For the freshest coffee, buy smaller quantities more often. Want to store coffee like a Pro?

On the Go?– Good news: most brew methods travel well. For off-grid brewing, we love the AeroPress and French Press. Prepping ahead of time? Cold brew is your best friend.
