Andy Gibbon: Co-Owner

Andy propelled a home-brewing hobby into a stint at Highland Brewing, Asheville’s first micro-brewery. When he started roasting coffee at home, he was hooked. He’s also Dynamite’s numbers guy. And he’ll make you feel laaaazy. If he’s not roasting coffee or off in Honduras sourcing beans, he’s probably on a bike, hiking the Appalachian Trail, or playing bass with Josh. Everyone loves Andy’s good natured sense of humor and his genuine interest in his community and friends.

Josh Gibbs: Co-Owner

Hailing from the Asheville area (Old Fort, to be exact), Josh is an all around home-town hero. (Literally. He has served as a volunteer firefighter and as Deputy Chief of the local rescue squad.) With a marketing background, Josh is the man you’ll find “high-fiving, hugging and hand-shaking.” Josh genuinely loves people and it shows. When he’s not pushing beans to the masses, you may find him up on stage, sometimes singing, with a lap steel guitar.

What was your first experience with coffee?

My dad would eat peanut butter toast with coffee every morning.

What’s your favorite part of your job/Dynamite/coffee industry?

One of my favorite things is cupping samples and choosing a new coffee. Another favorite is tracking roast profiles and deciding where to make changes in order to access all of the flavor potential in each coffee. I also like the conversations and collaboration that go into those changes. Well, that’s nearly the entire process for choosing a new coffee. That’s what I love, collaborating with other passionate coffee professionals.

What do you like to do outside of Dynamite?

I like to spend time with my family. Play guitar, hike and practice Chinese martial arts.

What’s your favorite coffee?

It’s hard to choose, but probably my favorite coffee is our Ethiopia Sidamo.  I like the rich fruity flavor that results from this crop being a natural processed coffee.

What’s your favorite part of your job/Dynamite/coffee industry?
I enjoy participating in a crew that genuinely values the source as well as the process and end result of our product.  Everyone here works very hard to provide great coffee, and I think they do a pretty superb job at it too!

I like to venture outdoors, especially to find new waterfalls, swimming holes, and camping spots.

Julia Michael: Coffee Bar Manager
What is your favorite Dynamite coffee?

When I first started, I was mostly interested in the darker roasts, specifically Honduras Dark. Now that I’ve gotten to drink all of our selections on a regular basis I have a much deeper appreciation for the light roasts. Currently our Ethiopia is my #1!

What’s your favorite brew method?

Love them all for different reasons. Top three: pour over, espresso, and cold brew

What do you like to do outside of Dynamite?

I usually like to find somewhere to volunteer whether that be a gardening gig or working with animals. I also have a degree in sculpture so I try and work on some art projects whenever possible.

Elijah Habif: Barista

What’s your favorite coffee drink/brew method?

I am a huge fan of cold brew coffee. I find that all the wonderful flavor notes of the roast come across much stronger in a cold brew and just love how much of a smooth, low acidity drink it makes.

What’s your favorite record in the Dynamite vinyl collection?

With such a huge collection of records it’s near impossible to say but The Band’s self titled record will always hold a special place in my heart.

What do you like to do outside of Dynamite?

Drink coffee and craft beer, hang out with friends, and go to shows, and anything viking related.

Hanna Williams: Barista
What was your first experience with coffee/coffee related memory?

While I was in Thailand, I had the opportunity to work on a coffee farm and tour their drying facility, their roastery, and do a cupping at their local shop. Seeing with my own eyes the process from bean to cup, had me falling in love.

What is your favorite coffee drink/brew method?

Both to make and drink are any form of espresso drinks; especially lattes. I love making them and practicing my latte art. Also, our Black Powder espresso is just the best.

What do you like to do outside of Dynamite?

I love being behind my camera and capturing special moments between couples and exploring mountains/waterfalls.

I love my pour over set. It’s fast and easy and brews just enough for myself.
